Phyrexian Scriptures

I'm proud to have had the opportunity to create one of the new "Saga" cards for Magic the Gathering, Dominaria, art directed by Mark Winters. My first traditional painting in a long long time and my first professional traditional painting ever, done in acrylic on canvas. It was a challenge reteaching myself some of those skills but it felt good to smell the paint again. The text can be translated into English, I don't know what it says, but I'm sure some intrepid Magic player will translate it. Since this was a departure for me I'll show a bit of my process. The text made creating the composition very easy and more akin to graphic design, so I got to have fun designing the Giger-esque alter around the text. I then built my design in Zbrush and rendered it in Keyshot and from there I had the perfect reference for the painting.
